Supporting nature recovery across the West Midlands
from the heart of an historic landscape.

BNG at Chillington Estate

Chillington Estate is playing its part in shaping the landscapes of the future. Through careful long-term ecological stewardship, we can offer high-quality BNG units to developers across the UK.

211 BNG Units Available, (31 units are under offer to purchasers currently)

Chillington offers developers access to BNG units created through the restoration and enhancement of:

  • Species-rich grassland
  • Traditional parkland
  • Hedgerows and woodland

All units are registered, monitored, and secured for the time that the site is set up for Biodiversity Net Gain, ensuring confidence and compliance for planning authorities. Our Site number is BGS-190925001 on the Natural England webpage.

Chillington lies within Shropshire, Cheshire and Staffordshire Plain (NCA61) - a landscape defined by:

  • Rolling pastoral farmland
  • Ancient hedgerow networks
  • Wetlands, meres, and mosses
  • Historic parklands and estate woodlands

(Did you know, Chillington has 64 kilometres of hedgerows!)

National Character Areas guide where habitat creation is most beneficial.
By aligning BNG delivery with NCA 61 priorities, Chillington ensures that:

  • New habitats strengthen regional ecological networks
  • Gains are locally appropriate and strategically valuable
  • Developers meet planning expectations for “local relevance”

This makes BNG units from Chillington particularly attractive to West Midlands planning authorities.

Working in Partnership with
Staffordshire Wildlife Trust

Chillington Estate has engaged Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, the county’s leading conservation charity, to be their Responsible Body for all of Chillington’s BNG sites. We already have a great relationship with SWT with the ongoing monitoring of White Claw Crayfish in The Pool at Chillington.

Potential areas of collaboration include:

  • Designing habitat creation in line with Nature Recovery Network priorities
  • Ecological surveys, monitoring, and long-term management
  • Joint delivery of woodland and grassland restoration
  • Community engagement and education initiatives

Partnerships like these ensure that BNG delivery is not only compliant, but genuinely beneficial to the wider landscape.
