Chillington Hall opens its doors for 28 days of the year, however if you wish to visit outside these days and have a group of 15 people or more we can arrange a private tour on any day of the year (subject to availability).
Our friendly guides will spend approximately 45 minutes taking you through the various rooms, and will discuss subjects such as the family history, the Hall's architecture, information on the furnishings and artwork as well as answering any specific questions that you may have.
If you belong to a specialist group, and have a particular interest in some aspect of history or the decorative arts, let us know and we'll do our best to find lots of things to interest you!
The tour is conducted on the ground floor only, and we have a ramped entrance to the side of the building if you prefer easier access. Floor surfaces are level, and doorways are wide. A short passage between rooms has a slight camber. We have accessible W.C facilites. We have plenty of seating throughout the house, so please feel free to sit down during your visit if you like. The tour commentary can also be made available in written form.

Group Tour Options
If you are planning a group visit (minimum of 15 people), we can organize private bookings on a day and time to suit you (subject to availability). We have detailed a couple of popular options below, but if you have very specific requirements or interests then please contact us to discuss a tailor-made tour.
Tour of Hall & Gardens - £12.00pp
Arrive to freshly brewed tea, coffee and biscuits. Once everyone is ready your guide will show you around the Hall. Tours take approximately 45-60 minutes. Depending on the size of the group, it may be split down into smaller parties. We normally like to have around 20 people per guide to ensure everyone can see and hear, and get a chance to ask any questions. Once the tour has ended you can explore the gardens around the Hall at your leisure.
Tour of Hall & Gardens with Tractor ride to the Lake - £15.00pp
The tour would be as described above, but with the addition of a ride on our trailer which is covered and seats 24 passengers. This ride takes you through the woods, along the winding waterside drive down to the Lake, which is ¾ of a mile away from the Hall. You can get off the trailer to examine the beautiful James Paine bridge which was designed to hide the dam and also to see one of the follies located beside the Lake. The tractor ride tour is 75 minutes long, and is ideal for the adventurous who prefer not to walk too far.
Why not make a day of it?
If you would like to eat at the Hall, we are happy to provide light luncheons for private tour groups. If we are providing catering for the group we do ask that we cater for the full numbers coming for the tour. Our minimum number for lunch is 15 guests.
Our Ploughman's Buffet offers excellent value at just £10 per person. Enjoy a selection of cheeses, ham and locally produced pork pie, garden salad and a variety of delicious preserves and pickles from Chillington's own kitchen. Fresh bread and butter, mineral water and orange juice are served, but guests have the option to buy a glass of wine too.
If you wish to enjoy a tractor ride, but have more than 24 people attending then we will split the group into two smaller groups. One group will do the Hall tour first, the others will do the tractor ride. They will then swap over before meeting back at the Hall for refreshments and departure.
